Indian Railways has launched over 12,075 special trains across the country to ensure smooth and convenient travel for passengers during the festival season. Most of these trains operated around Diwali and Chhath Puja, while many also ran during Durga Puja. To manage the massive rush, holding areas equipped with all essential passenger amenities have been set up at major stations, including New Delhi, Anand Vihar Terminal, Udhna, Pune, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and others, according to an official release. Railway staff are working round the clock to guide travellers, maintain order, and ensure that everyone reaches home safely to celebrate the festivals with their loved ones. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw tweeted, “Ensuring every passenger reaches home safely during festivals is our priority. These trains will serve over 30 lakh passengers, including 9,338 reserved and 2,527 unreserved trips.” Highlighting the scale of the initiative, the minister added, “This is a 56% increase compared to last year’s 7,724 trips. These special trains mainly operate from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Gujarat, and the Northeastern states.” The expanded services reflect the railways’ efforts to meet the surge in travel demand during the festive period and provide safe, timely journeys for millions of passengers.
